The Lost Polar Bear

A recent photo of a newly recruited Polar Bear that has strayed somewhat off course from Havre des Pas ,the Andaman Sea in fact!.

The local Thai Tuna fishing fleet decided to leave the dainty little create alone as they did not want the light little load in there nets. If anyone is able to venture down to the southern Hemisphere and recapture the cuddly little creature and return him to Jersey waters and uncle Derek it would be much appreciated.

JERSEY CLUB SWIMMERS UNITE UNDER A COLD COMPETITION

Four JSC Polar Bears recently took part in the 2008 Winter Swimming Championships held at Tooting Bec Lido - the UK's largest cold-water open-air swimming pool - on 8-10 February 2008.

This is the first time the Winter Swimming Championships has been held in the UK and the event attracted hundreds of competitors from across Scandinavia as well as countries such as Russia, China, Australia and Canada. As far as anyone is aware this is the only truly international winter swimming competition in the world.

Hosted by South London Swimming Club (SLSC), Alison Foot and Dilys Maletroit; (also members of the Jersey Long Distance Swimming Club) Jane le Quesne (a member of the Tigers Swimming Club)and Jane Elliott (Jersey Swimming Club), swam 25m head-up breastroke in a toe curling water temperature of 4°C.

With 60 + swimmers in each of their respective ten year age groups they were placed as follows:

Alison Foot 27.75 - 21st

Dilys Maletroit 26.81 - 12th

Jane Elliott 28.03 - 23rd

Jane Le Quesne 31.53 - 21st

Hi All

Thank you to all of you who sent us good wishes for our swimming competition at the weekend.

The sun was shining and (unfortunately?) the water was a little warmer than we expected (about 4/5 degrees!), we havent got the official results yet but we think we did Jersey proud and had a good time too.

Here is a photo of 4 of the Jersey representatives, (the lady on the left is a Jersey girl currently living in London and is planning on visiting Jersey soon to become a true Jersey Polar bear) the other photo is of the pool we swam in; Tooting Bec Lido that measures 100 x 33 yards.

We may also have a new recruit to join the ladies contingency. We were introduced to a lady who is coming over to Jersey to work.  We have arranged to swim with her on Saturday at 2pm when she will be on the island.
