POLAR BEARS LONG DISTANCE SWIMMERS
LOCH NESS CHALLENGE SUCCESS
Both the Jersey Polar Bears relay teams broke the record for swimming the 23 mile length of Loch Ness. The teams of six plunged into the the black waters of the famous loch at 6am on Saturday the 4th September 2004, the water temperature was 13°C and the waves were around three to four feet due to a force 4-5 wind.
The B team - Gerry Leonard, Sarah-Jane Stirling, Dario Parmesan, Ian Anderson, Kerry Blandin and George Telford - completed the swim in 11.06 hours to knock an amazing 1 hour 10 mins. off the existing record.
The A team - Alexis Militis, Alison Wood, Natasha Abels, Ian Jones, Steve Toudic and Simon Dowling - smashed the existing 12 hr 16min record and finished in 9hrs 21 mins.
The teams raised somewhere in the region of £2000 to £3000 pounds which will be shared between the Jersey GOSH Appeal and CI Air Search.
